Dr. Loretta Ayers is an accomplished assistant professor within the early childhood education program at Baldwin Wallace University. With an extensive background in the K-12 educational landscape, she has worn multiple hats – that of a dedicated classroom teacher, a visionary school leader and a passionate curriculum developer. Her journey through education has led her to instruct at various grade levels, encompassing kindergarten, second, fourth, and fifth grades, not only within Northeast Ohio but across different states. Armed with over two decades of hands-on experience in the general education classroom, Ayers is uniquely poised to mentor and empower the next generation of educational leaders destined for the classroom.
Ayers achieved her Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of South Carolina in 2020. Her research interests are diverse and cutting-edge, reflecting her dedication to enhancing educational outcomes. Her research areas encompass best practices in literacy instruction for English language learners, exploring the intricate connection between social-emotional learning and academic achievement among elementary-aged students, and the innovative integration of literacy instruction within various content areas. She also focuses on developing culturally responsive teaching practices, equipping preservice teachers with the tools they need to excel in a dynamic and diverse educational landscape. Furthermore, she champions the mentorship of preservice teachers, bridging the gap between educational theory and practical application within the complex teaching world.
